Prof. Dr. Jens Rassweiler, MD

Dr. Jens Rassweiler is a Professor and Head of the Department of Urology at Klinikum Heilbronn, the academic hospital of Heidelberg University in Germany. He received his medical education at the University of Stuttgart, the University of Freiburg, and the University of Tuebingen. He received urological training under Professor Eisenberger at the Katharinenhospital Stuttgart, where he also helped introduce extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL), percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), and ureterorenoscopy (URS) into clinical use. Dr. Rassweiler went on to serve as Vice-Chairman at the Faculty of Medicine in Mannheim. He became Head of the Department of Urology at Klinikum Heilbronn in 1994. Dr. Rassweiler is widely published, and has written more than 400 articles and more than 150 book chapters. His interests include laparoscopic surgery, laparoscopic nephrectomy, urological education, and pediatric urology. Dr. Rassweiler has received numerous international honors, including the German Urologic Association’s Ritter von Frisch Award, the Ralph Clayman Mentor Award of the Endourology Society, membership in the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons, and fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons at the University of Glasgow, among others.
